Liposuction is a procedure which removes excess fatty deposits to get the desired body contour.

Liposuction is relatively a safe procedure. But as with any other surgical procedure, it can have side-effects/risks which can be infection, pain and swelling, numbness, anesthesia risks, contour irregularity etc. To understand them better you should discuss these with your surgeon before the procedure.

Most patients undergoing limited liposuction in a good set up can return to desk job in a few days.  If multiple areas under general anesthesia are involved, more recovery time may be required.

Pain during first 2 days depends on the extent of surgery and the type of anesthesia used. Soreness is maximum between 2 and 7 days. Mild to moderate pain persists for 4 weeks; it gradually decreases over the next 4-8 weeks.

Few tiny incisions are made for entry of liposuction cannula. Usually the scars are imperceptible. In rare cases where the scar is noticeable, scar improvement therapy may be considered.

There will be dressing at the operated site. Depending on the extent of the surgery tubes may or may not be there. You will be given instructions regarding the same before surgery.

Kindly let the doctor know your full medical history with regards to intake of any medications (especially related to diabetes/blood pressure/blood thinning medications/steroids/hormones), information regarding tobacco use/smoking and alcohol intake. Ideally liposuction is done to improve the contour of the body and not for weight loss (inch loss rather than weight loss). Liposuction results usually last long if necessary lifestyle modification is followed. In most patients further procedures are not required . Future procedures may be required in some cases like planned staged liposuction/correction of irregularities or scar improvements.

You will be given detailed instructions regarding the care after liposuction. You need to wear compression garments for up to 6 months. You should take rest for few days and resume your routine activities gradually as per your comfort level.

Exercises/Gym/ Sexual activity/Vigorous activities should be avoided till at least 6 to 8 weeks after liposuction.

The cost depends on the areas that are subjected to liposuction, lowest when liposuction is done on only one body part (Ex : Only arm ). The cost increases as the multiple body areas are considered for liposuction (Ex : abdomen, breasts, hips, outer thighs, anterior thighs, inner thighs, knees, arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck). The cost of the procedure depends on the gravity of your condition, treatment modality chosen as well as hospital factors. The final estimate can only be given after a thorough consultation with our doctor. It usually involves Surgeon charges/anesthesia charges/hospital OT and Bed charges/Nursing care. The charges for consumables/compression garments/post op medications can be separate or combined depending on your package.
